Wasteland 3 is a delight to experience with some of the most engaging RPG mechanics in the series to date. The Battle of Steeltown is the first of two planned expansion. The Battle of Steeltown expands the base game with new enemies, weapons, armor, and world map encounters. The environment and models for the area also look awesome. Wasteland 3 was signed to a publishing deal Deep Silver, though, and so has released across PS4, Xbox One and PC, with ongoing support and content also being cross-platform. Combat and gear scaling means that both new and returning players can enter Steeltown during their playthroughs for a level-appropriate challenge, with a story and cast of characters that adapt to the decisions you’ve already made. Thankfully, the humorous writing is still there and I will admit that Wasteland 3: The Battle of Steeltown got a few chuckles out of me. Coming from inXile Entertainment, it’s the last cross-platform game the studio was working on prior to their acquisition by Microsoft in 2018.

Wasteland 3 launched last August to plenty of praise. If all you want is more Wasteland 3 story to follow and play through, this. The problem is, the bugs that seem to crop up regularly now spoil the taste somewhat. The story is good, choosing which side to champion does add a bit of replayability, and the weapons are fun to use, if only really relevant in the DLC bubble. The content is designed to fit into both new and current playthroughs – you simply need to have not finished the game – and will give a level-appropriate challenge, with characters that adapt to your decisions made thus far.
